Cage Clone (Cage Tillotson) uses the Tillotson 225RS sealed engine and is intended to be a spec class. Lately there has been some disparity in engine power, So What’s Up?? Besides some racers earnest desire to try by any means to be faster than everybody else via engine power, there is a very clear answer of why some Tillotson 225RS engines are outperforming others. Maybe you didn’t know that there are 2generations of the Tillotson 225RS engine. Both engines are sealed and appear the same externally. Generation 1 obviously is the original, with a stock unaltered head and a BLUE ignition coil limited at 6,500 rpm. For some reason, late in 2024 Tillotson elected to begin the release of a generation 2 engine. This “Gen 2” engine has a “high compression” head, and a GREEN ignition coil limited at 7,500 rpm. The head is a stock “Gen 1” head that has been milled, so there is not a noticeable difference in appearance. In a spec class these 2 differences can make a significant power difference. Clear and transparent Class Rules and posted technical specifications, along with post tech officials watching races and following through with appropriate post tech, does eliminate the problem of Gen 2 engines infiltrating a Gen 1 spec class. Unfortunately, there has been little transparency or communication with the racers regarding the 2 generations of Tillotson 225RS engines. That coupled with clubs that do not post the Tillotson rules or engine component technical specifications has kept many racers in the dark. So – What to Do??
209 Speedway Karters wants our Cage Clone (Cage Tillotson) racers to know that at our track we race the Gen 1 engine with an unmodified head and the BLUE ignition coil limited to 6,500 rpm. If at post tech it is determined that you are racing with any parts other than those specified in the Tillotson 225RS rule set posted on our web site, you will be disqualified. We will not confiscate your parts, but if the head does not meet the Tillotson 225RS specifications for a “Gen 1” head, we will NOTCH the head for future reference. Our track has a store, and we stock complete 225RS engines, sealed SHORT blocks, OEM “Gen 1” heads, BLUE ignition coils, and other Tillotson engine parts.
So how can you tell if your head meets post tech standards?? All engine component specifications are published in the “Tillotson TPP-225RS Rules” under “Supplemental Rules” in our “Rules” section of this web site The overall height of the OEM unaltered 225RS head is 74.02mm minimum (2.914” minimum).
209 Speedway Karters looks forward to you racing with us this season. We can assure you that the Cage Tillotson spec class will have integrity and parity with the engines to allow every racer the opportunity to hone their race craft skills and to win races.

209 Speedway Karters recognizes the difficulty in purchasing the Harbor Freight Predator engines in our state. These Harbor Freight engines were the basis for most of the Central Valley dirt oval classes, but their availability is not consistent anymore.
209 Speedway Karters wants to ensure your racing future, so we have decided to use the Ducar 224 as an engine platform to establish a consistent and inexpensive engine program. YES, Predator 212 engines are welcome at our track and will always race, but eventually the supply will dwindle and we are prepared for that situation with the Ducar 224 engines. We will Stock the Ducar 224 engines at the Track Store, and they will be available in the box or in a ready to race version. We will also have all the parts needed for the racer to build their own engine. Ducar has been supplying the blocks and most parts for the Predator 224 & 212 engines. We inspected and tested the Ducar 224 against the Predator 224 and found it to be the same engine with 4 exceptions. 1 - the gear on the Ducar 224 cam is metal rather than the plastic gear on the Predator. The cam is the same in all other respects (cam lobe profile, duration etc.) 2 - The side case cover on the Ducar 224 has an additional web and the other webs are slightly larger, not a bad thing! 3 - The Ducar 224 carburetor is fully adjustable and not a CA Air Resources Board carburetor with a fixed air idle screw. 4 - the Ducar 224 does not come with a flywheel. This is how they circumvent environmental laws controlling engines. It is for competition use only. There is no governor to remove and there are no case holes to plug on the Ducar 224.
Here are the Class changes for next season;
1. Beginner Flat and Beginner Box classes we are adding the Ducar 224 as an approved engine with restrictions - see class rules.
1. Junior Flat we are adding the Ducar 224 as an approved engine with a .550 restrictor plate - see class rules.
2. We will be adding a 224 Light Class at 350 lbs.
3. The current 224 class weight will change to 410 lbs. and it will be called 224 Heavy.
4. We will be adding a Super Clone class using the Ducar 224 engine platform. Similar rules will be used as the current Cen Cal Clone class, but with the Ducar 224 engine.
The 224 Junior and Senior classes will be allowed to use an ARC 6773 Billet rod. We believe this to be a NON performance item intended to improve engine longevity and reduce maintenance costs. Beginner classes will not be allowed to use the ARC 6773 Billet Rod.
The 224 engine platform is the same in the Senior and Junior classes, with the exception of the .550 restrictor used in the Junior Flat Class.
More details can be found in our class rules for each class listed.
Lodi Cycle Bowl has a short track inside the Speedway track, and we intend to make use of it!! We plan on a Short Track Series of 4 races and a Speedway Series of 7 races. The Speedway Series is a Championship Series with 1 Throwaway race (DQs not counted). The Short Track Races are stand alone races.
